April 2009 International Association of Facilitators North America (IAFNA) Vancouver, British Columbia Keynote: Enhance Your Meetings Using Conversational Leadership: Getting those 60 minutes of your life back (Or how I learned to stop avoiding and love going to meetings) Leaders devote 25-80% of their work time to meetings, yet how many of those meetings actually move the organization toward mission and vision accomplishment? Usually very few! Conversational Leadership capitalizes on the natural tendency of adults to learn through conversation. Anyone leading a meeting can use “Conversational Leadership” to unify and focus participants during the meetings and to ensure aligned actions afterwards. Designing and stewarding meetings that truly matter can be a key to system success. By using the conversational leadership methodologies the meeting designer and facilitator becomes a steward of learning conversations rather than a controller of people’s precious time. April 2009 Florida Association of Court Clerks and Comptrollers Orlando, FL Keynote Address: Change in Difficult Times Drawing on almost 30 years of experience of advising executives and teams in the government, private and non-profit sectors, Dr. Ray Jorgensen guides leaders in growing their personal success as well as the success of their teams and, ultimately, their organizations. It has been often asserted that any organization is only as strong as its weakest employee. Expanding this notion to the modern, team- oriented work environment, and using a leadership model in which high-quality relationships lead to high-quality results, Dr. Jorgensen shows how every team is only as strong as its weakest relationships. How well and how quickly teams make decisions, inspire innovation, tackle performance problems, or learn from mistakes depend on the strength of relationships within a team. Dr. Jorgensen demonstrates how leaders can shift attention away from individual personalities and onto the inner workings of relationships, and he shares ideas and tools you can use to build relationships strong enough to master your team’s toughest challenges. April 2008 Society of Organizational Learning (SOL) Muscat, Oman Keynote Address: Using Conversational Leadership Protocols to Bridge Differences Among and Between People The Oxford English Dictionary defines "gulf" as a substantial difference between two people, concepts, or situations". The 2008 SoL Global Forum theme, "Bridging the Gulf" asks questions containing the terms "promote inclusiveness", "sustainable local solutions", "problems of globalization", and "engage our collective intelligence". The applicability of "Conversational Leadership" to the discussion of these questions and the proven, multi-level success of "Conversational Leadership Protocols" in actual practice derives from the implications of the questions themselves. How do you conduct a meeting designed to establish consensus and clarity on "the problems of globalization"? There is not one gulf, there are thousands. They exist between and within people, nations, cultures, religions, and organizations.
